Room 9 has discovered that the UV {Ultraviolet light} reading is high in the courtyard outside our classroom. So we have found out that we need a shade cloth because it will stop the UV rays and let us work outside in the courtyard.
UV Experiment
We worked out the shade cloths position by testing where the shade is at different times of the day. We now know where to put the shade cloth. This is against the side of the school wall outside our classroom because this will stop the UV light reflecting off the walls, ground, clouds or shiny surfaces. If we have a gap between the shade cloth and the walls, we might get reflected UV light rays.
We have investigated 3 major elements they are: U.V {Ultraviolet light}, Temperature and shadow. We need to investigate them because we want to work outside but not get sun burnt. Some of us prefer to work outside rather than inside.
When some of us get too hot or cold our brains can start to go to sleep when we don’t want them to.
So, we are going to measure the distance of the courtyard to make sure we get the right size shade cloth, so we don’t get burnt. We are trying to make sure we are safe outside when we are eating, playing and learning.
What we found out.
We found out that there is no U.V.(ultraviolet) rays in the classroom.
The highest U.V reading was outside in the sun by our classroom.
The strongest U.V reading was at 12:15pm.
U.V. can reflect off things like the ground.
The lowest U.V reading was in the morning.
You can get sunburnt by the ultraviolet rays
If you get sunburnt you can get skin cancer.
The Ultraviolet light reading was very strong in the afternoon.
