Three Kete
These three kete (baskets) of knowledge were brought to Earth by Tane, God of the forest. His wicked brother Whiro, was trying to reach them first. Whiro attacked Tane but Tawhirimatea stopped him. Finally Tane reached the heavens where Rehua, the God of kindness handed him the three kete. Tane defeated Whiro using the kete and threw him into the underworld. Now Whiro brings sickness and death to people. When Tane returned to earth he hung the the kete in the wharekura (school). The knowledge that came from them was spread around the whole world to help all people.

The Three Kete
The Three Kete is a Maori legend, which is told in a classroom, and the teacher tells the story of The Three Kete.
The Three Kete is a myth about Tane the God of Earth who searches for the Three Kete.
This is what the names of The Three Kete are:
Te Kete Tuatea – The Kete of mental and physical challenges.
Te Kete Aronui- The Kete of emotions.
Te Kete Tuauri- The Kete of prayer.
The boy’s feelings in the story change throughout the story. He starts off sad and angry because he didn’t want to go back to school, then his feelings change when he meets his teacher.
