Zap

ZAP!
‘’ Help me Ken help me. I only went to the hairdresser yesterday.”

In Room Nine we had a Van der Graff generator. If you don’t know what it is, it is a static electricity generator. The Barbie doll’s hair was like a giant Mohawk that sticks up. Her hair went up and it made a tizzy sound. When Mrs Lieshout got it out and sat the Barbie up on it we asked her what it does. She said “Just wait and see?.’
Mrs Lieshout got it for was to see what a Vander Graff generator was like. It was to show us kids what static electricity was.

I liked when Barbie’s hair stuck up on the end.

BUZZ
“Buzzzzz, Ouch, that really……… HURT” “Static electricity can be really powerful.” At Sacred Heart School Room 9 has a generator that produces static electricity. It is called it a Van der Graff generator.

Room 9 discovered that if you make a chain with other people by joining hands and somebody touches the Van der Graff (OUCH!) the shock will travel through everyone’s body until it gets to the last person. If you touch the Van der Graff and then touch someone else the shock will travel to their body.

Room 9 really enjoyed the Van der Graff and we also discovered that if you wear metal it will give you an even bigger shock and ouch it really hurts!

Static electricity

Ow!!! People shout when they get a fright from a shock. That’s what the Van der Graff does.

On Tuesday 30th of April Room 9 had a go with a Van der graff. You get lots of shocks and frights from it.

One of the things you can do with it is line up holding hands, and the person at the front will touch the Van der Graff and the person at the back will go Ow!!!, and get a fright.

That is why you don’t play with electricity by yourself.
