The Reclaim.
In our reading we have been learning about reclaimed land, and different cultures. Reclaimed land is part of the seashore that has had the seawater drained out and made into land.
They usually do it at a harbour so they have more wharf space to put all of the containers that are filled with goods.
In the story the boy who is called Lance who starts to feel bored because he feels that Filo {his email friend} has a better life than him as he doesn’t go spear fishing, bait fishing, climbing up trees to get coconuts or snorkelling.
He wishes that instead of living on the reclaim that he was living in Samoa with Filo and doing more exciting things than what he usually does at home.
Then he got a big surprise as a dolphin suddenly turned up in the bay. When they went out into the water they were treading water and then the dolphin knocked them off their feet.
Lance suddenly realised how lucky he is to be living on the reclaim.
The moral of this story is: sometimes people don’t appreciate what they have or what their culture is like, or they think the grass is greener on the other side meaning that they think other cultures are better than theirs.
