Flax
The Maori people use flax for all types of things and these are some of the ways:
they use it for baskets (ketes),
headbands (tipare),
weapons,
clothes
weaving.
The reason why they used flax was because in the olden days they didn’t have any material or wool. That was because there weren’t many animals to use for materials so the main thing they could use was flax.
For this reason flax was really important to the Maori people because they needed it for so many things. This is why they treat flax with respect.
