FINDING OUT
MR WILSON FROM ENVIRONMENT SOUTH
Thursday the 16th of August 2007, Mr Wilson came to
Room9. He told us how the 1984 flood happened. He also told us if any one got hurt in the 1984 flood.
Mr Wilson also told us about the stop bank and how they pump water out of the river. Then he told us no one died. He told us that it went though Thompson’s Bush. It started to slow down when it got to Thompson’s Bush. The flood was three meters high in some places. It was still raining.

On Thursday the 16th of August Mr Wilson came to Room 9 to tell us about what caused the 1984 flood. He told us where it started and why it happened.
Then he showed us all the places were it flooded. It flooded in paddocks and houses. Next he told us that they had to build stop banks to stop the water from getting into houses.
He told us how fast the water was going into town. He said that it was going faster than a car. He told us that it flooded all over Invercargill. They had to use helicopters to lift animals up. It flooded in heaps of places like Thompson’s Bush. He told us that they couldn’t use the drains because they were blocked.
