Chinese Kites

Look at that kite, it is flying with the wind!!

3000 years ago Chinese kites were made. They were usually made for a purpose such as, if their family or friends were leaving or a special celebration.

The kites were made with bamboo and silk pasted together with strong glue. And they are very easy to make.

There are all different colours, patterns and types of kites. There are spots, stripes and many more. A Chinese dragon kite is medium size and is about six metres long and one meter high. It needs about three people to control it.

The main type of kites in China, are dragons because they are legendary creatures from the past. Inventors of early gliders and airplanes based their idea on Chinese kites.

And that is why the main Chinese kites is a dragon because it is a legendary creature.
