Weather Balloon in Invercargill

             Weather balloon
In Room 9 we had Mr.Esler come and talk to us about weather. He told us about the weather balloon. At Invercargill Airport they put a weather balloon up three times a day.

Each time they put one up it is a different balloon. At the bottom of the balloon there is a little device that records the humidity, temperature and the air pressure and it sends the information down to Invercargill Airport.

The biggest it gets is the size of a typical classroom .The balloon gets bigger as it gets higher because there is less pressure on it the higher it goes in the atmosphere. When it gets the size of a classroom it will pop. Some times you can find the bits of the balloon on the beach.

Invercargill Airport sends the balloon up to get information about the weather. After they have sent it up and it pops, they can’t use  it anymore. It was fun learning heaps with Mr Esler
